IMHO, once you get the base installation done
(http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook.xml?part=1) you can do the
rest at home.

Yes Xfree86 and KDE for example take a long time to compile but you could do

emerge -f packagenames from the Installfest rsync server then

emerge packagenames later at home

I like the idea of a Gentoo installfest, however in my experiences so far
the source installs take to darn long!! Even my 1.5GHz Celeron took over a
day. Perhaps we should have a few GRP CDs on hand and do binary only
installs for people, plus provide them with the source packages. That way
they can run "emerge -e world" when they get home and have a usable system
that is compiling everything with their custom optimizations in the
background.
