The whole point of a specific G. installfest is that by having it as a community effort it then possible to set up a local archive of both the stageX.tar.bz2 files as well as the .tbz2 binary packages before hand. These files are available on the CDs from the Gentoo mirrors. CDs are available for all the major machine types currently in use, including PPC.
For compiling any apps. which are not on the published CDs, it is possible to have a farm of machines running distcc. This speeds up the compile time by a pretty large factor for folks with older, slower machines. > Even my 1.5GHz Celeron took over a > day. Certainly that's a possibility, but provided we do it properly they won't need to. > Thoughts???? We need to know the various architectures which are coming well in advance. btw. Gentoo 2004.0 is a dream come true. While the install document still has a few rather tragic typos, it is a _vast_ improvement of the previous effort. -- Sincerely etc. Christopher Sawtell NB. This PC runs Linux. If you find a virus apparently from me, it has forged the e-mail headers on someone else's machine. Please do not notify me when this occurs. Thanks.
