I'm happy with any of the options. Option b probably carries the most risk in terms of it actually being possible. If we use 2004.0 and emerge --fetchonly, compiling can be done over time in the background for packages that need updating. (Thinking of my lack of broadband here). Option c means I can delay buying the hdd till my next pay, which also has benefits :)
