Are there many programmers on this list?
I've spent years programming in VB, FoxPro, SQL(variants a many), VBA, ASP, ... you get the GUI idea...
So far I've been very diselusioned by everything I've seen in the Linux programming world.
I've yet to actually see a fully interactive GUI based development and debugging enviornment such as you get with VB, ASP (Visual Interdev) and the rest of the Microsoft tools.
Visual Basic and co are toy languages, microsoft only, you get the picture...if MS doesn't port them to Linux, no one else is going to.
Serious programming is all done in C, which you'll have to learn if you want to do just about anything in Linux.
Borland produces a Linux version of Delphi, called Kylix. The open edition for GNU development on QT, only on two or three distros, is free I think, but it's a 90 MB download.
I'd start developing more applications for the Linux platform but I've yet to see anything other than very basic 'code and compile' CLI enviornments that I used to use back in the early 80's. That to me is a huge step backwards.
Comments anyone?
I'm interested in hearing from people who actually have these things up and running (rather than people who've heard on the grape vine about how fantastic something is and then just choose to point me to a URL that does little more than lay claim to how wonderful their system is).
Cheers Don
