I have snipped some of Don's previous message.
My understanding on the Samba issue is that Microsoft did not release
API's, code, or provide helpful information, and as such it was reverse
engineered with a great deal of effort. How much of that is true, I do not
know. I have heard the same said about Linux support for NTFS. It has been
another case of reverse engineering and perseverance that has made the
interoperability what it is today. Now that there is some momentum, let's
hope that Microsoft relaxes, and answers technical questions so developers
can work on making things go, not figuring out how it works so they can
interface to it later. This is a huge direction shift, and a big ship like
Microsoft does not turn quickly. I hope they have decided to turn.

Ciao, Dave

On the Samba front, do we have enought technical information out of MS to
keep moving forward?

I was recently reading about WinFS which I understand is going to be powered
by MS SQL Server. Do the samba guys have full details of the specs to
interface with the new technology that's comming?

It seems to me that OSS is constantly playing catch up. Gates has been
reported as writting OSS off as little more than a catch up team.

Cheers Don
