I believe the install is now ready to boot, with Suse partition's grub entry amended to include Gentoo (same method already works to boot WinXP & Knoppix), but:
"Error 13: Unsupported executable format"
at what stage is this error given?
(Stage 2 > 3?)
I checked Grub's website FAQ & "Error 13" means the kernel isn't in a recognised format to run.
Final trial last night had me copying random possibilities, incl. vmlinux, into /boot - none of which helped.
I'll boot up the Gentoo target box from Suse again & send you ls /boot to review.
I have a kernel-2.6.5-gentoo
(a copy rename from ../i386/vmlinux)
what is the name of the kernel image you moved to boot?

1st Q for the day is: if that kernel was compiled using Suse's 2.4.x, can it be correct for booting 2.6.5-gentoo?
Unguided, I would be recompiling after booting & chrooting from the LiveCD instead.
what does grub.conf say?

vmlinuz is not a partition, it is a kernel
