Yes, but the warning does talk about a recovery method which as far as I can 
see is a satisfactory solution to the problem.

This is obviously unacceptable!
Have you _any_ idea why? 
Have there been any changes to ntfs between MS 2000 and XP which could account 
for this?

Which version of ntfsresize did you use?
Tom's Root and Boot is / was fairly recently / available in two versions.
There is a pretty old 'stable' version and a much more recent in development 
one.

Yes we have to find a reason for this situation.
