Hi, I'm new to this list, and to Linux, and I know b*gger all about computers, but I need to reconnect my PC now that I've installed Linux (Mandrake 10). I get to the point where I'm asked what network/driver to use and I haven't a clue. How do I find this out. I presume the modem (Motorola Surfboard hired from TelstraClear) is a standard one and that it should be easy, but Telstra's help deask say it isn't worth the company's time rtying to support Linux. There is a guy there called Bob who might ring me when he comes back from leave or something, but I wondered if anyone else could help me. Thanks, John Edmundson Welcome to the list. Rule number one is you do not post in HTML. I might have the same modem as you (model SB5100?), and I connect using the ethernet port. Go get yourself a straight through ethernet cable and connect it to your network card in your pc and the port on the back of the modem. You will need to configure your network card on your pc with the static IP information that was provided for you at install time. The only driver for networking you will need to know in that case will be for your network card. This will simplify your setup a great deal. Do not use the USB port on this modem, as it complicates things. Ciao, Dave
