The redhat thing I posted last night definitely works. i did it again on the lan at home last night as I was posting to you.
I booted off the bootnet floppy, luckily it recognised the network card, but I could have used the drvnet floppy, i then followed those instructions I posted yesterday and viola, a working system. I successfuly mount /dev/hda3 chrooted into the gentoo install on the same box.
