MD didn't like my imbedded vid card so dropped to text install and left a lot of stuff out but I am slowly installing all the packages i need.
Thanks for all the help with this problem. once I get it working I can get back to my ssh hassle. ( might be easier now I upgraded.)

Ah, upon rereading your original message, I see that the installation completed fine, and you were having the problems after the first boot of the installed system.
In this case, rebuilding a new kernel without the PNP BIOS driver is a fairly easy way to solve the problem. The option you're looking to disable is 'CONFIG_PNPBIOS', aka 'Plug and Play BIOS support (EXPERIMENTAL)'.
You could also try to install and boot the kernel that the installer used, which, since it worked, presumably didn't have the PNP BIOS driver installed either.
