Further comments in-line below.

Thanks for the replies, in the interim I figured out urpmi from Chad's recent posting and got 136MB of updates (overnight, dialup), though I'd still like to get Mandrake Update configured. In Software Media Manager, there is update_source and updates
You only need one update medium configured with urpmi. I'd delete one of them, and set the other to:
urpmi.addmedia --update updates ftp://ftp2.jetstreamgames.co.nz/pub/dist/mandrake/official/updates/10.0/RPMS/ with ../base/hdlist.cz
This line means that the ftp site named will be added as a special "update" medium called "updates". urpmi knows that some of its media are "update" sources. They have special status, and can be used with the --auto-select option.
and I think I should be able to point them both to ftp://jetstreamgames, how do these relate to "contrib" and "main", and are these the correct urls?
Contrib provides a wide variety of packages that don't have the official Mandrake smile of approval. This includes some pretty significant applications, such as Audacity.
Main is the distribution. You don't need it if you've got the CDs.
Yes, your URLs look correct.
You will probably also want the PLF, available in Australia, especially if you want to view DVDs:
urpmi.addmedia plf ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandrake/10.0 with hdlist.cz
Contrib
ftp://ftp2.jetstreamgames.co.nz/pub/dist/mandrake/official/10.0/contrib/i586/
with ../../i586/Mandrake/base/hdlist2.cz
and
Main
ftp://ftp2.jetstreamgames.co.nz/pub/dist/mandrake/official/10.0/i586/Mandrake/RPMS/
with ../base/hdlist.cz

Try deleting the update source and then adding it again and trying
again.
Use Menu > System > Configuration > Packaging > Software Media Manager (Or something like that) to delete the update source and any other old RPM sources eg the 9.2 CD's. Then save and Run Mandrake update.

Hi,
I have just upgraded a machine to Mandrake 10 Official from 9.2. Prior
to the upgrade, I had applied all the available security updates, but
now that I've upgraded am having some difficulty believing that there
are no updates to 10!
I am using Mandrake Update gui tool. On selecting one of the mirrors
from the list, I get "There was a problem adding medium. medium
"update_source" already exists". Next message says "the list of updates
is empty. This means there is no available update for the packages
installed on your computer, or you already installed all of them". This
last message is what I was getting running pre-upgrade when all packages
were installed.
I struck out on google, does anyone know what I should do?
