Rob had a good idea - use two pairs for each of two sockets. Then at the other end put each pair of pairs to a different socket on the ethernet hub/switch.
A small distribution switch is also a workable idea - but they need power. Is there any reason to not wire more proper sockets in place? You could also go wireless on the laptop, with an access point somewhere convenient. -----Original Message----- From: Nick Rout [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, 1 July 2004 12:00 p.m. To: CLUG Subject: OT but not political - getting another net connection in my room I have one ether net connection in my room at the office, but sometimes I bring the laptop in and have to unplug the desktop to use the lappie on the net. frustrating. I am in no position to be running more wiring from the hub room to my office. I have a 5 port 10M hub that I could use within my room, but it seems rather overkill, and will slow these two boxes down to 10M. I cannot use one of these http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/40e3529d0a787aa8273fc0a87f990777 /Product/View/XH4247 because at the hub end the wiring is terminated on a 110 style punch down block. Any other ideas? -- Nick Rout <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
