Not really. By far the most time is taken up by uncompressing the
archives and writing a gazillion files to disk. Therefore the main
factor in determining how long an install will take is the amount of
software selected for installation (and the machine speed of course).
As Robert didn't specify, the time given is somewhat meaningless.

Keep in mind that a dvdrom drive will read a dvd noticably faster than a
cdrom drive reads a cd. Oh, no swapping media either... ;)

Downloading 7-8GB might be ok for those on jetstream, on a 128kbit
connection it takes a weak and is therefore out.

True, but we all know that this information should also be backed up.
Might as well get the 7GB on dvd in the first place. EVeryone has
different preferences though, no problem with that.
