I've found that its pretty much plug and go.  There's only three USB
controller chips, UHCI, OHCI, and for USB2 theres EHCI

An advantage of a hub is that you don't have to grope around the back to
plug things, and that hubs also provide power.  Also they don't take up PCI
slots.

Many new mother boards have 4 to 6 USB ports already.

Being short of a USB plug and with PCI cards ($20 Tastech) being much
cheaper than hubs, what's the general opinion of these cards under Linux -
is it plug in and go (as usually happens with mobo USBs), or does it have to
