I've just popped in a 2.6.7 kernel from Debian, and it's running with an Nvidia GeForce4 card.

I've applied the latest Nvidia driver (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6106-pkg1.run).

I'm now getting intermittant horizontal flashes on the display, around 100px long and about 1px high, about 1 per second. These were worse under the 5336 driver I was using with 2.6.5, which gave no problems.

Bleeding-edge syndrome, I think. Be warned!

ObLicense: Would this problem happen with an Open Source driver for the video card? Probably. Would this be fixed any quicker? No, as long as Nvidia are interested in supporting Linux, they are the best people to fix their own code. Would Alax Cox fix the driver faster/better than Nvidia? Probably, if he were motivated to do so. Motivation is a problem that transcends licensing terms.

My problems are random disconnection of any input device! I can move the cursor around the window, but none of the buttons/keyboard work.

vanilla 2.6.7 kernel, x.org X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 6.7, nvidia 6106.

Most tedious.

... and don't bother trying with a 2.6.8-rc1 kernel - that won't fix it either... ):
