What I'd really like to know more about is the various projects which offer tight integration between the Linux applications and the Darwin kernel and the reverse. Gentoo MacOS is one such effort. http://www.gentoo.org/news/en/gwn/20040719-newsletter.xml Anybody had a play with this stuff?
Yes, I use fink stuff regularly. There's no "tight integration" because there doesn't need to be, just source tree ports that work, and a package manager - apt for binaries, and 'fink' for sources.
I can't figure out from the Gentoo MacOS pages just what they're doing, especially in relation to Fink.
Also, any package can port to OSX themselves (Apple's development environment is provided by default, and has gcc + "everything else"), and often do. This is what OOo have done, I believe.
I must admit that I've lost track of just who it is that wants this done, the AUGC event on the same morning as the installfest had a last-minute change of location, and I couldn't make it. Could someone who knows the user in question just give him my email address?
