I've had similar problems to those Nick described under Fedora 2. I know 
that if you switched off the antialiasing, then they came right.

The sad bit is that I can't for the life of me remember how I did this! 
Hopefully someone who kills less braincells on a regular basis than me 
can follow up on this one (:
