No.  There's just nothing to argue about.  ed(1) is the standard
editor[0].  Use ed.

"Better" is subjective, but there can be no argument about
simplicity--ed wins.  Please don't waste my time with suggests that junk
like:
        $ cat > file
is even simpler, because it's not an editor.  It's close to an editor in
your bloated readline-enhanced shells, but it's not the same.
