Hello,

I have a requirement to set up a TCP/IP link from a Linux box to a Win XP
box using a serial cable (for various reasons).

Clearly what I need is a PPP 'server' on Win XP and a PPP 'client' on the
Linux box. I have read the PPP howto, and it mostly concerns itself with a
link to ISPs using PPP over a modem, but it does suggest how to do it over
a direct serial cable.

I have tried the HOWTO suggestion to establish a link between two Linux
boxen (as a stepping stone to getting it going between Linux and XP), but I
cannot get it to work and I don't know enough to figure out what I don't
know.

Has anyone successfully done this and could pass on a few tips? Right now
I have access to Knoppix, a Debian box and an XP box. I have verified that
the serial ports are all working using minicom, hyperterminal and getty. I
have tried running pppd at both ends, but not much seems to happen. I want
to get it going between the two Linux boxes first, so any help would be
appreciated.

Thanks,

Andy
