2 other things:
1. why do you need apache if you are going to only browse local files?
We don't, and wget rewrites URLs in snarfed websites perfectly well enough.
2. why not do a knoppix remaster, similar to Volker's excellent suggestion, but even less likely to fall over.
As I said in reply a moment or two ago, a nice idea for the medium term, but possibly not the short term. Also I've not tried mastering knoppix disks, so that would be another learning curve item.
