I think probably because we are well resourced for servers, hosting and a wiki.

I have acquired a spare server - its fairly useless to me as it is... I'd probably do it up and sell it on trademe. However I'm wondering if CLUG and CLUG users would be interested in a CLUG server, similar to hoiho which is the Waikato LUG's box. Links for details on hoiho are below.
Info on server http://www.wlug.org.nz/WlugServer http://www.wlug.org.nz/HoihoDocuments http://www.wlug.org.nz/WlugMailNotes
AUP for what you can and can't do with it http://www.wlug.org.nz/HoihoAcceptableUsePolicy
SPECS The box is a compaq proliant 6500 and is currently running NT4 on one processor - it can take four. Dual PSU. It has 384 Mb ram and 3x 2.1 Gb drives and can take stacks more.
HOSTING I'm thinking of hosting it at home on my cable connection, but I'm concerned about going over volume. hoiho does about 2-3 Gb a week and my home data cap is only 10 Gb/month. hoiho does run a particularly popular wiki - 7-8 Gb oif web traffic a month alone http://www.wlug.org.nz/webalizer/
MAIL [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED] for reading on the machine, or pop it elsewhere, or imap, or whatever even.
WEB http://yourusername.canternbury.lug.nz/ does that grab you?

Lots of things that I haven't thought of.
Cast loose the discussion!
Why the deafening silence on such a potentially worthwhile project?

Fair point. Wish I had time to get more involved. Must try.
