I don't understand this bit - by "smb path" do you mean a share on a
windows computer? I though kbear was a ftp client - or does it play with
smb shares too?

perhaps this is a time translation issue - was it maybe 3.00 am GMT when
you moved the files? probably not actually, but the clock could be set
wrong on one or both of the systems.
