Run the folowing command;

setxkbmap -option compose:ralt

Under X hold down the right alt key and the shift key together, strike the ^
and A keys in quick succession.

To find the key sequence you require run the following command;

dumpkeys |grep compose

PS. Tested with konsole and kwrite

PPS. /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/compose seems to be the relevant file.
