        Yes. Some are just too "proprietary" and encrypted etc., and
(apparently) cannot/will not run under Linux (I've been reading/researching
the subject). So, finger's crossed, say a prayer... etc. Hopefully... ;) Be
nice if the modem manufacturer's would be more cooperative, but (at least
some of them) seem to be determined to be miserly and greedy etc. It's a
good thing that Linux is there to encourage them to give up such pettiness.

I had similar problems with an AC'97 modem on my laptop.  There are to
them trivial differences (to them) to this modem which means that some
will work under Linux, others will not.  I have the second.
