oops, I kinda assumed you already knew about apt-get. You will need to be root to run that command. type 'su', then enter your root password, then try it again. you might also like to read 'man apt-get'. if you intend to use a debian based system you'll need to at some point :)

It's Ubuntu - use 'sudo' instead of 'su', otherwise the instructions are fine.

("There Is No Root" in Ubuntu, rather like in OS X ...)
