Umm...
But the "problem" extends further than here... Seems that to get
Ubuntu going again requires to reformat the whole hard-drive, and saying
goodbye to the "other o/s"... (especially as an ISP connection can now be
established in Ubuntu). Still haven't resolved the GUI dial-up in Ubuntu
though...
Unfortunately, at present, the "apic nolapic" command won't work for
installing Ubuntu. So it seems necessary to start completely from "scratch".
Actually, tried to install Mandrake 9.1... (have the CD's, and it worked
with the "apic nolapic" command, but wouldn't, for some reason, finish the
install). Returned the Mandrake 10 CD's (Knoppix and Morphix also)...
Shouldn't have really... but... Seems there are issues even among various
Linux distros... with people preferring various distros... etc. Personally,
just trying to get a distro that operates/installs okay, utilizing all the
functions of the computer(s) here, for the work load at hand... is a major
mission! So, now the "apic nolapic" command won't work when trying to
install Ubuntu... So, okay to go with trying SuSE... and see how that goes.
Basically, just want to get a distro of Linux that goes okay, without any
conflicts. Seems reasonable...? So, having tried Ubuntu, seems okay to also
try SuSE, and see which one works best on this setup here... Got so many
other things going on also here... and at the same time trying to resolve
all these full-on conflicts with the computers... Very intense. Thanks for
the offer Nick, but am waiting for confirmation about SuSE... At this stage
(from this end) it's okay to get the SuSE CD's... and give that a go. Can
always reinstall Ubuntu... We'll see if SuSE does better with the hardware
here... It may do better. Hope all goes well at the function... Be nice if
there wasn't all these full-on conflicts going on... Wishing well.
