I see smartlink-softmodem as a package, version 2.9.6, should work, 2.9.9 worked on ubuntu.
I also hope it works if suse wants to update the kernel, as there does not seem to be a version of the rpm for anything other than the installed kernel, and I am unsure ahhh never mind, the module is provided with the kernel rpm, the smartlink-softmodem contains only the wrapper scripts and support sutff. cool.
