Yes, they're probably the 70Hz and 75Hz lines.  On rereading your
original message, you might not have a modeline that will provide
1024x768 at 85Hz.

Use the ModeLine generator script[0] at to generate a valid 1024x768 at
85Hz mode, add that to the X configuration file, restart X, and see how
you go.  Keep an eye on the log to make sure the mode line isn't dropped
as an invalid mode for your monitor.

You can change the name of the modeline to include the refresh rate--it
makes it a little easier to understand what's going on.
