What a novel approach?

1. Ask a question, explaining what you have done.
2. Read the responses.
3. Try following suggestions.
4. Ask for clarification.
5. Try some more.
6. Post back your successful steps.

Thanks all who replied.

My touchpad now operates pretty much as it does under XP.
An exception being that it doesn't take a double tap to open a file...just a

single one. A single tap followed by a quick finger movement moves the
icon...this is good enough for me and was my main bug-bear.

I followed Nick's instructions in modifying my XF86Config file with the >MC
prompt (Midnight Commander). Everything went as per the instructions
given...
except for the last line of code to get the /kdm start up and running...not
sure why...but I simply rebooted and KDE came up first time.....sweet.

The touchpad control issue was resolved by running sax2 from console.
My mouse configuration was set to PS/2 auto detect. I simply added another
'mouse' option (Synaptics...a touchpad) and rebooted for it to take effect.
So it was already there to be configured in SuSE...I just didn't know where
to
look.

Cheers
Ralph
