Can't help but wonder why you are reluctant to reinstall xp yourself?

I don't have an install CD set Roger.

Wether he does it himself or not, if the PC comes with an "image" type
rescue disc then he will probably have no choice about partitioning.

Ralph, if you have a Windows serial number (for XP Pro) I could probably
lend you a WinXP Pro CD to do a manual installation. Unfortunately it may
mean manually loading/obtaining other software and drivers though.

...and if you're not happy with that, I'll do it for you (:

Thanks Robert & Steve...offers very much appreciated but a no go for the afore-mentioned reason.

I will go the warranty route firstly ...just in case there is a hardware issue. I've found HN to be pretty good at fixing up things and putting it down to warrantable issues (goodwill)...I believe they use Dove Electronics for the really hard jobs. I do appreciate the offers made by people but I am very conscious of the time freely given and would hate for that time to be wasted should a hardware problem surface as the culprit of my woes.

My initial question was posed in respect of the amount / type of system configuration info that I can possibly expect to get back. Perhaps I should simply have asked: What should I backup (apart from my personal data) ....bear in mind I am limited to CD data storage capacity.

Ralph

re backups... I've got an external 30GB usb2 hdd if it helps.

Steve
