How is the eth0 device configured? Manually, or using DHCP? DHCP will,
by default, overwrite your /etc/resolv.conf with the values it receives
from the DHCP server. This isn't happening in your case, but it's worth
noting as a possible issue for users with similar configurations.

DHCP, but there is no need for it be active at all the moment, I have no home network, I just haven't bothered to remove it from the boot process as I figured it wasn't really doing any harm, and I may get plugged in somewhere some time.

bugger, I don't remember where it was - can I re-'touch' the file to bring the error back?

Please check the following things and let the list know: - Right click on KInternet and select 'Settings->View configuration'. - Look for the options 'auto-dns' and 'modify-dns'. These should both be set to 'yes'. - If either of these settings are wrong, select 'Settings->Configure with YaST2' after right-clicking on KInternet, select 'Modem', select your Internet provider, click 'Edit', then 'Next', make sure that 'Modify DNS when Connected' and 'Automatically Retrieve DNS' are both checked on the 'Connection Parameters' screen, then 'Next', 'Finish' and try your dial up stuff again..

Modfy DNS when connected is not checked currently, when I select it it activates the two DNS boxes below. I don't have server IPs to enter from my ISP so I have left them blank. Then, when I try to leave the screen ( next/finish ) I get "Error Primary name server is not correct", leaving me to either unselect it and continue or abort.
