That's what I worry about. > I haven't the time or motivation to fuss about out of date FLOSS projects. err i am using the latest ghostscript that most distros use, namely the gpl with cups etc patches (because most distros use cups and need the patches) http://www.cups.org/ghostscript.php afpl ghostscript, which is at 8.14, is under the Aladdin license, which is not the gpl (as I posted earlier). the afpl people also release an earlier version under the gpl, on a regular basis, often about 12 months after it has been released under Aladdin. That verision is currently 8.01. However, as I said, it not in as common use as most distros seem to prefer it with cups compatibility as provided by the eps 7.07 version.
