If you're trying to avoid excessive traffic charges that may result from
mischief or malice directed towards your network connection, having a
firewall on your side of the network won't help all that much. Once the
packets reach your firewall, the upstream provider has already counted
those packets as traffic against your connection. The only useful
course of action in these circumstances is to contact your upstream
provider and cooperate with them in stopping an attack.
