I can't seem to find the exact text quickly, but the summary was that the current kernel shipping with sarge uses alsa modules that are slightly out of date with the current shipping version of alsa libs and base package. The problem that they mentioned referrred specifically to the emu10k1 driver. There were a couple workarounds that were possible, using a 2.4 kernel, or 2.6.9, or modifying your .asoundrc.
