but it still doesn't help my problem. The rules just mean I can get
udev to symlink or name the device in a particular way. Your kernel
seems to think your usb flash disk device is called 'sda' or
something, mine likes to call it 'uba'. Using your rule (but with my
serial number of course) with 'sda' didn't work, using it with 'uba'
worked, but only inasmuch as I now get FAT errors when I mount 
/dev/pendrive 

at the moment I don't care what the damn thing is called, I just want
to read from and write to it ! :-]
