My last PC was $20. I gave it away to a friend as a gift (after installing
Linux of course).

TradeMe is currently listing a Compaq Proliant (no hard drive or monitor)
for $3, and another random system with no monitor $35. Often on this very
list people will, er, pass-on their, um, currently unused systems or parts.
A 'bring out your dead' message might get you the part you need for free
or only a few dollars, including complete or mostly complete systems.

Good luck. Oh, and don't forget, you can set up your Linux box and then
have it running in a cupboard with no monitor or keyboard. You can connect
to it via a network from another PC.
