Hi,
 you can use
 a2ps -RE --columns=1 file.c -o junk.ps ; gv junk.ps

Now,
 don't get along with vi?
 don't get along with emacs?

This is unfortunate - vi and emacs would have to be the most universal
editors in the linux world. They have been around for many years, and
will continue to be around for a good while yet.

Knowing a console only editor is kindof helpful. There are many times
when X don't go, and you are stuck in run level 3 (or lower).

xemacs is a sensible place to start.
You have the typical buttons along the top of the editor.
It is not "hard" to learn. You start by doing simple things.
(cursor left, cursor right, up, down save load etc.)
With time, you extend your skills and do things like macros, cutting to
registers, deleting rectangles of screen text etc.

=======================================================================
Now, we are seriously off the topic of source code highlighing in a
terminal. Part of me is interested to know what people find so hard about
emacs.

Derek.
