For many people that might be good, but if we follow this we would
probably end up with something like a mac. The strong side of GNU/Linux
is that it is fully configurable and that those people who know what
they are doing can get the most out of their boxes. The best would be
something that combines simplicity and flexibility. Neither apple nor
windows nor the GNU/Linux community have achieved that yet. I think
GNU/Linux is the only operating system that is on the right track
because the GNU/Linux programmers don't have to remove all the
flexibility because they don't want the users to use only their
software. (Just look at the combination windows & IE/media player or
apple hardware & mac OS)
I agree. I think the idea computer OS for many home users (ie, my
parents) would simply be mozilla on a kiosk style machine. A machine
they can turn on & have boot in a second or two, and turn off without
having to "power down".
I haven't seen this style of "computer" in NZ, but if I could buy one
for say $300, I would and it would be going to my parents.
