ahh but look what happenned when netscape open sourced - firefox. I.E. is not dead, but firefox certainly has made a noticeable dent. there are mainstream computer press (without the word "linux "or" open" in their names) that firefox is the way to go. its very uplifting!
Still only 5% of the market. IE Still whups it it terms of market share. It'd be fun to do a survey on why people *haven't* switched to firefox.
Because IE is bundled. You buy your computer, and there's IE, ready to go. IE has a somewhat unfair market advantage. Only increased market share by Linux can change this.
Additionally, the browser market is unstable, in the same way that the OS market is. Web-site providers have to test their sites, which is an expensive process. Guess which browser they test their sites with? This will only change if Firefox gains sufficient market share that it can't be ignored by web-site providers. 5% ain't enough.
We can all help by writing annoyed emails to web-site providers that don't test their sites with Moz/FF, e.g. Court Theatre, Air New Zealand.
