OK well theres not a lot that *I* need in home user apps that I cannot
do in linux. Maybe a good CAD program like the fine german malz-kassner
cad program for drawing my renovations.

The net has not only helped spawned linux, but also the OS neutrality of
the www assists linux. I can use online dictionaries from linux, mac,
unix, beos, even windows. 

I don't really know about the dictionary that started the thread, the
page is in german, i suspect the dictionary is too. not of any interest
to me for that reason, except that  i *am* pleased that the manufacturer
has released it for linux.

I agree with the proposition that if you need to pay for a program and
there is a choice between equivalently functional linux/windows programs,
go for the linux vendor!
