Hey Thought you guys & gals might be interested in this. I've got this old 1986 vintage Tandy 102. Its quite common for people who own this delightful wee machine to use it as a remote terminal logged into a Linux box. I've used it that way on Red Hat/Fedora systems, and now ubuntu. 40x8 display ain't the best, but hey?
The other night I was trying to get the thing doing the same thing on my xbox running Xebian Linux. And I got it working! Really quite a neat set-up. Took a pic of it here: http://www.planetnz.com/palmheads/tandy.php#dumb Key thing was to plug a USB -> Serial converter into a XBox Controller -> USB plug converter. And run a getty on /dev/ttyUSB0 instead of a serial port (which doesn't exist on a xbox). On another topic altogether, have gotta say I am totally impressed with Ubuntu Linux. The whole Debian/apt-get/synaptic thing is fabulous. I don't know how many times I've thought "it would be quite nice to install that..." only to go "apt-get install insert_great_app_here" and its just been there! I could do the same thing using Fedora Core 1 & 3 with apt-get (using 3rd party repositories), it just doesn't feel as clean as Ubuntu. For instance I'd written a wee perl/Tk script that uses Gnome's Sticky Notes app to transfer files to the PalmPilot using pilot-link (http://www.planetnz.com/palmheads/myhacks.php#sticky). It was just a breeze to get it working again with Ubuntu. Only had to install a couple of Perl modules which it didn't have. Everything else was just apt-get'ed. Great! Anyway, keep happy everyone. Am always learning something from following all the different discussions on this list! cheers Daryn ========================== The PalmHeads http://www.planetnz.com/palmheads
