The explora 451 basically works in the same way, downloads a kernel by tftp, mounts a remote filesystem and runs X over the network, so that your server is basically running all your apps.

However the only present way to do it is to use the proprietary NCDWare kernel 
and executables. People are trying to get both netbsd and linux running on 
them, but the proprietary hardware is getting in the way.

I have half a dozen of them from Craig Falconer, ready to make a classroom exercise out of (or an installed space).
