My 2c: There are three kinds of attacks: 1. Automated (viruses and worms) 2. User activated (trojans) 3. Manual intrusion (cracker) The overall design of linux is pretty good at preventing the first. User education can usually prevent the second (even on windows) Linux is vulnerable to the third type. The only way to prevent a deliberate break-in by a determined cracker is to have a firewall that is monitored by a knowledgeable network administrator.
