I have long regarded generic *nix questions as on-topic for the LUG.
Linux is essentially unix (regardless of official certification or
lack there-of).
GNU comes from a unix of tradition, in the good old days before AT&T
tried to close it up. If RMS had never been presented with an NDA that
he took offence to, he would just be another happy unix hacker.
Despite the denial in its recursive acronym, GNU is closely tied to
unix. Many unices use gnu tools (eg gcc) and the GNU tools are mostly
one-to-one replacements for traditional unix tools.

Unix is beautiful. Unix is elegant. Linux is a lovely implementation there-of.

Thanks for listening, you guys are wonderful *sniff*
