A different file system could be the answer, but probably not all of it. also affecting this is: RAM - quantity and speed raw hard drive speed bus speed the kernel what hardware has to be probed and kernel modules loaded for probably most importantly, what services are loaded on startup. Then again I believe ubuntu loads bugger all on startup, as it is designed to be a secure desktop and not a server. so that doesn't entirely explain it Anyway, we don't have enough info to explain it, but the above may give _you_ some areas to explore :-) anyway, real unix users never reboot, so who cares LOL -- Nick Rout
