Because they have never been taught. 1) It's only in the last year or three that the education department has seen the need for decent computer use training in the high schools, and it's still pretty ho-hum. 5 NCEA points for merely being able to send an email & move a file. 2) The older ones won't go to the CoolIT classes in case they catch cold. 3) Staff expect the boss to not only pay for the lessons but also to allow them to attend lessons in the firms time. Understandably the boss has other ideas on the matter. 4) The knowledge tsunami has turned out to be a mere ripple. -- C. S.
