It explains the situation precisely. Apparently the Kernel has suddenly got a fit of GPL political correctness and now - as of 2.6.10 - won't allow the insertion of non-gpl kernel modules. No more kernel taint it just refuses to do it. If that's not a recipe for shooting one's foot, I don't know what is. Once my T/P has completed the emerge --update world it is doing currently I will be trying to get the modem to go using the slmodem kit with a fair degree of determination. -- C. S.
