I'll settle for stuff that is clearly labled "stable version" and
"developers' version".
With OSS there needs to be a way for those who are willing to test
bleeding edge stuff.
It's also good that stable versions are availble for production use.
With organisations like the Mozilla foundation and Open Office, where
lots of non-techies get directed to their website by techie friends,
the test version needs to be very clearly marked in case some
unwitting person downloads it and ends up with a bad impression based
on a test version rather than the stable version.
I'm guessing this is the sort of scenario Steve is thinking of.
