a discovery to add to the discussion..
Apart from you posting twice, I fail to see the "discovery", or in fact
any real information in this post?
A range of replies came to mind. After due consideration I will share them, even though answer 'a' seemed the most satisfactory to us both.
a)
b) And your post is different how?
c) It's about community, and building community - sharing the work to keep *nix vibrant and employed. Every Linux distribution is part of this.
d) [This seems to be what you're needing me to post; it's neither news nor a problem to do so.]
SuSE's YaST has a great screen configuration GUI, that competes with MS-Display dual-head functionality well. I have not tested it for setting up a projector for the LUG because I didn't need to; running KDE by default, SuSE has no projection problem on the equipment ("I have yet to see a KDE fail to project well." ..Ah. If you're not on the Adminsitrivia list, you won't have read that recent discussion). I have not tested SuSE's GNOME for projection purposes, because the months-ago time I tried using SuSE's GNOME it did not work properly from the basic setup options. Finding RedHat's desktop easier and stabler than Mandrake's as a newbie in 2002, I have aquired a GNOME preference. I have no idea when or whether this will change. In the meantime I am working to make GNOME-based Linux User workshops as trouble free as they are for KDE users. Hence my explorations of what's happening around Debian.
e) I have had sufficient time to look at all the articles you referred us to now; useful, thanks. Sorry if I concatenated projector / distro discussion in a hurried, confusing way. I shall work towards better clarity. Viz: SuSE & KDE shine. Debian-based remains the lead sector though at 24.1% - worth being aware of, at the least. And, "open source software is a fast-moving and competitive market" worth being involved with, even at risk.
f) I am sorry if I haven't come up with anything helpful yet. I will keep trying.
hth, Rik
