php3 - well we're on 5 now, and 4 came out in 2001. We're at a stage where an application written php ( which is written in C after all ) can only harm itself, and not other applications running on the same server. Some of the major php applications are now very common, and have become legitimate targets for hacking attempts. I don't really think mailman comes into that category really.
